Picture Me Rollin’
Its been a long time coming, but the long-awaited biopic from hip-hop legend, Tupac Shakur is on its way, and now we get an official look at the film via the first teaser for All Eyez On Me.
The film stars newcomer, Demetrius Shipp Jr. as the slain MC, as it follows him from his childhood in Baltimore to his eventual death on the Las Vegas strip. The trailer plays a bit on the mythic status that Shakur amassed after his death, as Shipp’s face isn’t revealed until the very end. That said, dude does look a lot like Pac. Still photos were popping up all over the internet as soon as he was cast, and the likeness is spot on. It remains to be seen whether or not he can convey the magnetism and charisma that made Tupac such a star, but in the brief glimpses, his mannerisms look genuine.
All Eyez On Me is directed by Benny Boom, an iconic music video director in his own right, who only has one feature film to his credit, 2009’s Next Day Air. When you think hip-hop music videos, he’s right up there with Hype Williams and Little X, which means the visuals will be on point if nothing else. The trailer looks well made at least, and with Notorious and Straight Outta Compton both doing well domestically and commercially, this film has something to actually live up to besides the lead character’s legacy.
All Eyez On Me has no set release date at this time.
