Star Wars’ John Boyega Cast in Pacific Rim Sequel

Cancelling The Apocalypse, Again

In a move that’s sure to please sci-fi fans the world over, Legendary Pictures has tapped Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Attack the Block star, John Boyega as the lead in the Pacific Rim sequel.  The news was broken via Deadline.

Full details on the film have yet to be released, but according to Deadline, Boyega will be playing the son of Idris Elba’s character, Stacker Pentecost. So this film will be taking place some twenty years or so after the 2013 original. “I am very proud and happy to welcome John into a fantastic sandbox. The Pacific Rim universe will be reinforced with him as a leading man as it continues to be a multicultural, multi-layered world. ‘The World saving the world’ was our goal and I couldn’t think of a better man for the job.” Said, del Toro about adding John Boyega to the film.

Pacific Rim 2 (Unconfirmed title) will be directed by Steven S. DeKnight and executive produced by series creator,  Guillermo del Toro. The film is set to begin production later this year for an August 2017 release.
