Movie Buddies For Life!
Okay, Black Panther hasn’t even officially began production, but already it’s not playing fair. Hot on the heels of negotiation rumors with Lupita Nyong’o, The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Michael B. Jordan has signed on for the highly anticipated film starring Chadwick Boseman, who made his acclaimed debut as the Wakandan King in Captain America: Civil War
No official word yet on who Jordan will be playing in the film, but rumors suggest it’s Killmonger, one of Black Panthers earliest villains. For those keeping score, this will make the third movie together for director, Ryan Coogler, and star Michael B. Jordan. The latest of which being the hit, Creed. Not that the MCU needs it, but if the Coogler/Jordan connection can bring half of the magic they crafted on that movie, Black Panther is shaping up to be something special indeed.
Quick history lesson, Killmonger, real name N’Jadaka, is an exiled Wakandan, raised in America after his father assisted Ulysses Klaw against his will. Killmonger has a serious bone to pick with T’Challa (Black Panther), he being the one who exiled him, and spent his entire life training to avenge his fathers death, and family name. He is both an expert martial artist, and something of a tactical genius. Oh, and Wakanda now being somewhat involved with the Sokovia Accords during Civil War, his presence makes logical sense.
This movie is coming together quite nicely in terms of casting and the creative team behind it. Also, Marvel gets to redeem yet another Human Torch actor. Juuuuust saying.
Black Panther is currently slated for a Feb 2, 2018 release.
