Glory be the day! Those who have “cut the cord” or don’t want to pay for ridiculous bundle packages to watch Game of Thrones may finally get what they want. HBO has announced they they will be implementing a home streaming service that does not require a cable package sometime in 2015.
Announced at the Time Warner Inc., Investor meeting, HBO Chairman and CEO stated that there are roughly 10 million homes that have broadband internet but no cable option, as well as 80 million homes that do not have HBO. While the 80 million isn’t a surprise, it is the “10 Million, internet only” homes they want to focus on, as that number has been steadily growing over the years.
No news on pricing or availability as of yet, but this is a huge step in the “right” direction. HBO hasn’t been shy about wanting more eyes on their product, even going as far as fully supporting giving friends you HBOgo access, and not locking the amount of devices on their end.
The chairman is quoted as saying; “So, in 2015, we will launch a stand-alone, over-the-top, HBO service in the United States. We will work with our current partners. And, we will explore models with new partners. All in, there are 80 million homes that do not have HBO and we will use all means at our disposal to go after them.”
And sir, we thank you.
