After years of being the only network to not have a comic book property, CBS has given a full series order to Supergirl. Forgoing the development AND pilot phase. Supergirl will be a one hour drama, with the same production team as Arrow and new series The Flash. While writing duties will be handled by Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler, both of whom worked on Chuck and No Ordinary Family
Based on the well-known DC Comics character, Supergirl will follow the story of Superman’s younger cousin Kara Zor-El, who also escaped the destruction of their home planet Krypton. Kara has been living on Earth as a “normal” girl, but has finally decided to take after her older cousin and fully embrace her super powers at 24 years old.
No word yet on whether or not there will be any crossover between Supergirl and the CW shows Arrow and The Flash. Although neither of those shows will connect with DC properties on other networks, being under the same Berlanti umbrella does open the door a little wider to some semblance of a connected DC universe, at least for those three.
